Laura’s Light became Constitution’s fifth stakes winner on Dec. 29 when she scored by an emphatic 3 1/4-lengths in the Blue Norther S. at Santa Anita. The WinStar stallion also got his 30th winner from his first crop on Sunday when Cindy’s Prayer sped to a front-running maiden special weight win on the grass at Fair Grounds.
Laura’s Light, a debut winner on Nov. 2 and subsequently second in the Nov. 30 Jimmy Durante S. (G3) at Del Mar, outclassed her competition on Sunday. Sent to the front almost immediately, she controlled the pace the entire trip and was widening her margin at the finish.
“(Trainer Peter Miller) told me to play the break,” said winning rider Abel Cedillo. “It looked like there was other speed in there and if they went, he said to let them go and if they didn’t, to go ahead and put her on the lead. So, my plan was to break and go!”
Laura’s Light is owned by Gary Barber and bred in Kentucky by Golden Pedigree LLC. Out of Light of a Star, Laura’s Light is a half-sister to Arlington-Washington Futurity S. winner Barry Lee.
