Carpe Vinum extends hot streak for Carpe Diem

Carpe Vinum powered to a one-length maiden special weight win on the turf Dec. 29 at Santa Anita to give top-10 First-Crop sire Carpe Diem his 16th winner this year.

The win came just one day after Bella Aurora won the $100,000 Gin Talking S., one of Carpe Diem’s five winners in the last month of 2019.

Carpe Vinum, who was third in a turf sprint last month, relished Sunday’s two-turn stretch-out to two turns. Second for the first six panels, she moved up and past Predictable Tully entering the stretch, and was in full flight in the lane to win smartly in 1:35.63 for the mile on the “good” turf (VIDEO).

A $200,000 purchase at the OBS April 2-year-old sale, Carpe Vinum is owned by MyRacehorse.com and Joey Platts. She was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall and Craig & Carrie Brogden and is the second foal out of the multiple stakes winner Martita Sangrita.
