Carpe Omnious, a $550,000 yearling purchase, showed plenty of promise in his Dec. 21 unveiling at Gulfstream Park, winning a six-furlong maiden special weight contest by a half-length over the highly-regarded All Eyes West.
The most expensive Carpe Diem yearling to sell at auction last year, Carpe Omnious is the 15th First-Crop winner for his sire. A Grade 1 winner at two and three, Carpe Diem has bred at least 130 mares in each of his first four seasons and will stand for $15,000, stands and nurses, in 2020.
Carpe Omnious, owned by China Horse Club International and WinStar Farm, broke from the inside post and settled a couple lengths off the lead down the backstretch. He lacked running room on the turn, with Javier Castellano having to check him on a couple of occasions. When room opened up at the top of the stretch, he forged his way to the front and outran stakes-placed All Eyes West for the victory
Carpe Omnious was bred in Kentucky by Siena Farms LLC. He is the second foal out of Renards Lapin, a daughter of Tiznow who is a half-sister to graded winners Dr Fong and Lucky Story.
