Halo Again surged to the front in the final sixteenth of the 1 1/8-mile Coronation Futurity at Woodbine to score by a head over Malibu Mambo in the first stakes start for the 2-year-old Speightstown colt.
Winner of his debut Oct. 27 at Churchill Downs, the $600,000 yearling purchase is now perfect in two starts for owners Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing.
Breaking from the inside post under Rafael Hernandez, Halo Again stayed on the rail nearly the entire nine furlongs. He was a couple lengths off the lead through six furlongs, then lost a bit of ground on the final turn, before rallying strongly in the stretch and holding off the runner up for the win.
“The first time on the Tapeta and under the night lights, he gave me a hard time but he’s a nice horse,” said Hernandez of the colt’s trip.
Halo Again was bred by Anderson Farms Ont. Inc. and is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Inflexibility and Grade 1-placed Fundamental. Under his third dam, Goulash, is two-time champion Ashado and Grade 1 winner Sunriver.
Speightstown has had another brilliant year at stud, with his on-track progeny earning over $10.4 million, topped by Sharing, winner of the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).
