Colby surged to the front in the final yards to win the $100,000 Dickie Moore S. Sept. 21 at Charles Town Races in the stakes debut for the 2-year-old Super Saver filly (VIDEO).
She is Super Saver’s 11th stakes horse this year and his sixth black type winner. Super Saver now has 45 lifetime stakes winners with progeny earnings of more than $22 million. His champion sprinter Runhappy was the leading freshman sire at the recently concluded Keeneland September Yearling sale.
Colby, who had broken her maiden Aug. 10 at Monmouth Park, broke on top in the two-turn, seven furlong race, but gave the lead to Majestic Edge after the first furlong. As the field entered the final bend, Colby dropped back further and looked out of contention until the homestretch, when she gathered herself and rolled to the front in the final strides to win by three-quarters of a length.
Colby upped her earnings to $90,600 with her second victory in three starts. She is owned by D. J. Stable and bred in Kentucky by Martha Jane Mulholland and Yehuda Cohen.
