Harris Bay turned in a very sharp debut effort Sunday afternoon at Belmont Park, zipping through six furlongs in 1:09.21 to defeat heavy favorite Dream Bigger by three parts of a length and give his sire Carpe Diem his eighth winner from his first crop.
A top-10 Freshman sire, Carpe Diem also got his first stakes horse last weekend when the 2-year-old filly Bella Aurora finished second in the $100,000 Jamestown S. at Colonial Downs.
Harris Bay made the winning move in upper stretch after tracking the leaders through the first half-mile. Coming three-wide, he wore down Dream Bigger, surging past in the final sixteenth to secure the win (VIDEO).
Harris Bay is owned by Nedlaw Stable and was bred by WinStar Farm. His dam Hot Spa is a sister to stakes winner Dig Deep and hails from the family of 12-time stakes winner and multiple Grade 1 winner Chaposa Springs and Metropolitan H. (G1) winner You and I.
