Speightstown’s first offering through the ring at the Keeneland September Yearling sale brought a winning bid of $575,000 during Monday’s opening session of the marathon auction.
Shadwell Estate Company was the winning bidder on hip No. 52, consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock, agent. The chestnut colt is the first foal out of the Broken Vow mare Rosalind, winner of the Ashland S. (G1) and Sheepshead Bay S. (G2).
Speightstown’s other yearling to sell Monday was hip No. 168, a filly consigned by Select Sales, agent and purchased by Jim and Susan Hill for $380,000. She is out of the Empire Maker mare Unavenged, a half-sister to millionaire Naughty New Yorker.
Speightstown is having another excellent year at stud, currently ranked eighth on the General Sire list with eight stakes winners and over $7.7 million in progeny earnings to date.
