Bob Baffert gave Flor de La Mar a cut back in distance in Saturday’s $75,000 Beverly Lewis S. and the 3-year-old Tiznow filly responded with a handy come-from-behind victory in the six-furlong affair.
Flor de La Mar, who finished second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) in April, is Tiznow’s 77th lifetime stakes winner.
Last in the field of six for most of the first half-mile, Flor de La Mar began her rally on the far outside in upper stretch, slowing cutting into her deficit and passing Madame Vestal in the final sixteenth to win by a half-length in a hand ride under Mike Smith.
Flor de La Mar races for Godolphin and was bred by Don Alberto Corporation. Out of Grade 3 winner Sacristy, she sold for $500,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling sale in 2017.
