First-Crop stallion Speightster’s two yearlings through the rind during Tuesday’s session of the Aug. 5-6 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale both brought winning bids of at least 15 times his stud fee, topped by a $200,000 colt.
Hip No. 122 was consigned by Four Star Sales, agent and went to Gary Stevens, agent. The bay colt is the first out of Stock Yard Hen, who is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Buffalo Man.
A few moments later in the session VanMeter Gentry Sales offered hip No. 135, a filly that went to Davant Latham, agent for $150,000. The bay filly’s dam Teewee’s Hope has already produced four winners and is closely related to the champion Conquest Typhoon and the multiple Grade 1-winning sprinter Schossberg.
Speightster, a son of WinStar Farm’s leading sire Speightstown, was one of the farm’s most popular stallions in his first two seasons, breeding at least 150 mares each term. Speightster’s next offerings at auction include 54 lots in the Keeneland September Yearling sale.
