With a top-priced $285,000 colt leading the way, freshman sire Speightster saw excellent results Tuesday at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale. With six lots total selling, Speightster’s average of $140,833 was nearly 15 times his stud fee.
Speightster’s sales-best colt was hip No. 169 consigned by Denali Stud, Agent and sold to Robert and Lawana Low. The chestnut juvenile is out of Cheap Perfume, a half-sister to Kings Bishop S. (G1) winner Capo Bastone.
“This colt in particular is from a very fast family with [Grade I winner] Capo Bastone under the second dam,” said Jacob West, bidding on behalf of the Lows. “I have a lot of respect for him. We just thought he looked like a fast horse with a fast pedigree. Mr. and Mrs. Low got in behind and we got the horse.”
Another highlight of the day for the WinStar stallion was hip No. 242, a colt consigned by Lane’s End, agent and purchased by Randy Bradshaw, agent, for $150,000. The gray/roan is out of the stakes-placed mare Holy Dazzle and from the family of champion Flanders and leading sire Choctaw Ridge.
Speightster, a graded stakes-winning son of WinStar’s Speightstown, has been a big hit with breeders, covering more than 320 mares in his first two seasons at stud.
