Bronzed, a 3-year-old son of Fed Biz, best Sombeyay in a prolonged stretch duel to capture the inaugural running of the $75,000 Lookin at Lucky S. June 2 at Monmouth Park.
Bronzed has won three of four starts this year for co-owners Michael Dubb and Bethlehem Stables LLC and has now earned $109,327. He is one of Feb Biz’s five stakes horses this year. With more than $1.1 million in progeny earnings to date this year, Fed Biz is ranked fourth on the Second-Crop Sire list.
Under pressure the every step of the six furlongs, Bronzed went through the first quarter-mile in :22.20, then hooked up with Sombeyay before entering the homestretch. The two were inseparable the rest of the way, but Bronzed got his nose down first to stop the timer in 1:10.07.
“I was lucky I out-broke Sir Truebador,” said winning rider Nick Juarez. “I told (trainer) Jason (Servis) if I can out-break him and squeeze him out early I’ll do so. Luckily we were able to have the upper hand and we were able to get the jump on him. But we still had to battle it out the whole way.”
Bred by Lyn and Mike Burleson, Bronzed is out of Bronze Route, a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Golden Ballet and graded stakes winner Gilded Gem.
