Bulletin, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint champion, return to action April 4 at Keeneland with a gate-to-wire victory in the Palisades Turf Sprint S. in what was the inaugural running of the race at the historic Kentucky track.
The 3-year-old colt, owned by WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and SF Racing, has now won all three of his starts, all stakes, and banked $655,570 in his young career.
Bulletin and his jockey left nothing to chance from the start of the 5 1/2-furlong event, coming out of the gate very quickly from post 10 to set the pace. The chestnut had about a length on the field through a half-mile in :45.65, then opened up a three-length lead in mid-stretch before powering home a 1 1/2-length winner over Real News. The final time of 1:02.92 on the firm turf earned the City Zip colt a 94 Beyer Speed Figure.
“He’s a special horse,” Castellano said. “You don’t see too many horses like that. He’s got so much talent. I just enjoyed the ride. You have to encourage him a little bit because he’s the kind of horse who looks around a little bit. But this time he put it together. I like the way he did it today.”
WinStar Farm’s Elliott Walden added that a start at Royal Ascot may be in the cards for Bulletin, saying, “That’s kind of what we’re looking at. We’ll huddle up with [trainer] Todd [Pletcher], let him do his job. He did a great job getting [Bulletin] ready for today. The horse was three in front at the eighth pole, and I knew he wasn’t going to get beat then. He’s a very talented horse. We’d be honored to go to Royal Ascot.”
