Brunette Princess and Miss Marcela were three lengths ahead of the field when they hit the wire on even terms to share the win in Saturday’s Any Limit S. at Gulfstream Park.
A dead heat is a rare enough event, even more so when two horses by the same sire accomplish the feat. Making the wins even more unique was that both it was the first stakes win for both the 3-year-old Bodemeister fillies.
Just five went postward in the Any Limit, and Brunette Princess and Miss Marcela didn’t make their runs until upper stretch. Miss Marcela was the first to make her move, and looked like a winner in deep stretch until Brunette Princess closed with a rush to share the victory.
“To be honest, I didn’t think I won. I know they were going fast up front, so I bided my time,” Brunette Princess’ jockey Chris Landeros said. “I’m just happy that we got a piece of it.”
“My filly is a very good filly. There were only five horses in there and I told (jockey Emisael) Jaramillo, the conditions are excellent,” Miss Marcela’s trainer Antonio Sano said. “I’m so proud of my filly. It was a great race.”
Bodemeister is a top-5 cumulative Fourth-Crop Sire with more than $11.8 million in progeny earnings and 146 individual winners to date.
