Princess of the Nyl scored her first stakes victory in style on July 22 when she rolled to an eight-length victory in the $50,000 Washington Oaks at Emerald Downs (VIDEO).
Joining Mike Puhich’s barn two starts back, the 3-year-old filly was a close third in the Irish Day S. on July 1 before Sunday’s win. Her overall record improved to 2-3-3 in 11 starts, with earnings of $123,799.
Sunday’s impressive victory came after Princess of the Nyl trailed the six-horse field for the first half of the 1 1/8-mile contest. She began to make up ground going into the final turn, then made a swift three-wide move just outside the quarter pole. Sweeping to the lead at the top of the stretch, the bay filly powered home an easy winner in 1:51.24.
Princess of the Nyl is owned by Muddy Waters Stables and was bred in Kentucky by Guy and Diane Snowden. Her dam Arabisini hails from the same family as the champion filly Althea, Grade 1 winner Aldiza and multiple graded stakes winner Twining and Aquilegia.
