Like he did in the Dominion Day S. (G3) on July 1, Tiz a Slam led gate-to-wire in Sunday’s Nijinsky S. (G2) at Woodbine. The Chiefswood Stable homebred has now won three graded stakes, four stakes overall, and $655,990.
Tiz a Slam is one of Tiznow’s six stakes winners and 13 stakes horses overall this year.
Sent out to the front soon after the outset, Tiz a Slam was allowed to set a moderate pace, getting a mile in 1:42.23, then kicked into gear to pull about two lengths clear in midstretch before ultimately winning by a half-length in 2:29.06 for the 1 1/2-miles on the “good” turf.
“He’s a big horse, he’s taken a long time to mature,” said trainer Roger Attfield. “He’s still maturing, he’s learning. The last two races, he trained up to both of these races better than he’s trained up to any race in his career so far so it doesn’t surprise me. We looked after him as well as we could as a two-year-old and he’s just getting bigger and stronger and maybe he just keeps getting better also.”
Tiz a Slam is now 6-2-1 in 18, with wins in the Cup and Saucer S. at two and the Ontario Derby (G3) as a 3-year-old.
