7th Annual Race for Education 5K/10K Run

The Race for Education is taking to the streets of downtown Midway, Kentucky, on Saturday, October 10th at 8:30am.
Serious runners and weekend joggers alike are invited to enter the starting gates for the Seventh Annual Race For Education 5K/10K Run, which will be sponsored by 5/3 Bank. Cash prizes await the top male and female winners of the 5K and 10K in addition to many other prizes.
Overall, more than 100 awards will be bestowed on participants, who will be supporting The Race For Education’s Karri Casner Memorial Scholarship Fund through their participation. A national education scholarship foundation, The Race For Education has awarded over $2,500,000 in college scholarships to 265 students in 34 states from a broad variety of backgrounds since the organization was founded in 2002.
“I am so proud of all of the support we receive from the community for this event. Each year we sell out all of the kilometer sponsorships and receive so much involvement from the local businesses it truly makes the event special,” says Elisabeth Jensen, the organization’s President.
This year WLEX Sports Anchor, Mary Jo Perino will ride the historic train, dispatched by R.J. Corman and blow its whistle to signify the start of the race. The 2009 t-shirt is sponsored by Markel Insurance, and a contest was held to design the t-shirt for the race, with the winner receiving a $500 scholarship.
Some of the most prestigious names in our community are giving a boost to the 5K and 10K competitions. The Jockey Club, the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, Juddmonte Farms, McCauley Brothers, K.B.C. International, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Legacy Bloodstock, Horse Racing Radio Network, A1 Sanitation and the University of Kentucky Equine Initiative are sponsors at various levels.
Veterans of previous editions of the races know that Midway offers a lovely setting in the autumn and that the emphasis is on fun as well as competition. A post-race breakfast, sponsored by Breeders’ Cup can be enjoyed while listening to live Bluegrass music from Dan Hill and Friends.
