Paynter’s up-and-coming 3-year-old filly Dark Artist tallied her second stakes win in a month in the $60,000 Open Mind S. at Monmouth Park, defeating Too Charming by a neck in a hard-fought victory.
The bay filly captured the Boiling Springs last month on the same turf course and is now 4-0-1 in eight starts with earnings of $141,136 for Goodwood Racing VIII.
Paynter is a top-five Second Crop Sire this year, with his runners winning at a solid 50%, earning nearly $1.3 million and winning or placing in eight stakes to date.
Dark Artist and Too Charming essentially staged their own match race in the eight-horse field. Too Charming had the advantage until there was less than a furlong to run, when Dark Artist wore down her foe to come out on top.
The final time for the 1 1/16-miles on the firm turf was 1:44.44.
Dark Artist was bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds and WinStar Farm and is a granddaughter of two-time Grade 1 winner Fleet Renee.
