Lady Alexandra was very impressive in her nearly four-length victory in the $100,000 License Fee S. April 29 at Belmont Park, drawing off in the final furlong to win convincingly.
The 4-year-old More Than Ready filly was making her first start since late July. Stakes-placed at two, she is now 3-0-1 in seven starts for the Heider Family Stables and has earned $210,750.
Ridden with confidence by Jose Ortiz, Lady Alexandra sat a few lengths off the lead in the early going, then loomed up on the outside of Touch of Bling with a quarter mile to run. Ortiz took a look back at the competition at the top of the stretch, then with a shake of the reins, Lady Alexandra bound away from the field to win with ease.
The final time for the six furlongs on the “good” turf was 1:08.29.
“I was just a passenger today,” said Ortiz. “She broke well and put me in a good position. Graham always gives me the confidence to put them where they are comfortable. I felt like she was doing it easy where she was in second. She was pretty easy going to the quarter pole and when I asked to go, she exploded. She really gave me a good kick. She did it really nice.”
Lady Alexandra closes out the month in fine fashion for More Than Ready, who started off April with the undefeated Rushing Fall taking the Appalachian S. (G2) at Keeneland. He leads the General Sire list with eight black type winners to date in 2018.
