Black Stetson lowers track record in Bridgetown S.

More Than Ready had a stellar Saturday at Aqueduct when Black Stetson set a track record in the $100,000 Bridgetown S., just a couple of hours after the sire’s 4-year-old filly Uni (GB) also turned in a course record in the Plenty of Grace S.

While Uni had several stakes wins in her past performances, 3-year-old Black Stetson was making his stakes debut for trainer Juan Guerrero and owner Ten Strike Racing.

Black Stetson broke quickly and made his way to the lead in the first furlong. Rolling through a quarter-mile in :22.03 and a half in :44.56 seconds, Black Stetson kept on the gas pedal in the stretch, stopping the timer in 1:07.84 for the six furlongs on the firm turf.

“I was talking to Kendrick [Carmouche , who had ridden Black Stetson twice at Parx Racing) three days ago and he said, ‘you’ll like him, he’s a fighter,'” said winning rider Junior Alvarado. “I had that in the back of my mind. He broke good, I just wanted to be sure to put him on the lead, where he can use his speed and be comfortable.”

Black Stetson is now 2-1-0 in five starts and has earned $99,028. More Than Ready now has seven stakes winners this year, topping the 2018 General Sire list.
