Leading Third-Crop Sire Bodemeister had one of the top-priced lots during Tuesday’s session of the March 13-14 OBS 2-year-olds in Training Sale.
Tom McGreevy, agent for Michael Stinson, signed the winning ticket on the $725,000 colt, hip No. 108 consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds. The bay colt had breezed an eighth-mile in 10 seconds flat during last week’s Under Tack Show.
“Obviously we liked him,” McGreevy said. “He’s the kind of horse we look for. It’s difficult to pay that much because it’s so difficult from here to make a good horse, but he was just one of those outstanding individuals that had all the potential to be that really top Saturday afternoon horse. That’s what were looking for.”
Out of the Friendly Island mare Victory Island, the Kentucky-bred is from the same family as champion older male and Belmont S. (G1) winner Victory Gallop.
Bodemeister leads all 2018 Third-Crop sires with 25 winners to date, topped by Triple Crown hopeful Magicalmeister, recent winner of the John Battaglia Memorial S.
