Paynter has risen to the #4 spot on the active North American Second-Crop Sire list after a pair of fillies by the young WinStar stallion broke their maidens at Fair Grounds and Laurel Park.
The cleverly-named Starving Artist, trained and owned by Joe Sharp, looked very impressive in leading all the way en route to a 4 1/2-length maiden special weight score on the Fair Grounds turf. Starving Artist covered the “about” distance of 1 1/16-miles in a very solid 1:44.30.
Bred by Eico Ventures, Starving Artist’s dam Salary Drive was a stakes winner of more than $205,000.
At snowy Laurel Park, Coveralls was also a front-running winner, scoring by nearly four lengths going six furlongs on the main track that was labeled muddy due to the inclement weather. Coveralls races for Robert Gerczak and was bred by Green Lane Farm South, LLC. Her dam stakes-placed dam Dressed for Succes is a sister to the multiple graded stakes winner Gators N Bears.
In addition to his six winners thus far this year, Paynter has a pair of stakes-placed colts: Renaisance Frolic, who was also a stakes winner at two, and Glennwood.
