Call Another Play the first stakes winner of 2025 for Audible

Call Another Play kicked off the new year with a strong effort in Saturday’s Geisha S. at Laurel Park, winning the one-mile contest for older fillies and mares by two lengths.

The 4-year-old had a very good 2024, winning the Weber City S. and placing in both the Black Eyed Susan S. (G2) and Searching S. With Saturday’s win, the chestnut filly has earned $236,585 for her owner/breeder R. Larry Johnson.

Call Another Play was near the back of the field after the start of the one-turn race, but steadily made her way up to within two lengths of the lead entering the turn. She caught up to Royal Whisper, who was alone on the lead for six furlongs, at the top of the stretch and went by her in the next furlong. She pulled away from there to finish in 1:40.19 on a fast track.

“He [jockey Mychel Sanchez] tucked her in behind another horse,” said Michael Trombetta’s assistant trainer Tana Aubrey. He had a great trip, and when he called on her, she went. She likes to stalk and make that little move.”

Out of Past as Prelude, Call Another Play is a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Future Is Now.

Audible, who stands this year for $10,000 S&N, finished second on the 2024 Second-Crop sire list with over $6.7 million in progeny earnings and led the list with six graded stakes horses.
