Tom’s Ready ran down Stallwalkin’ Dude in deep stretch to take the $200,000 Bold Ruler S. (G3) by three parts of a length at Belmont Park on Saturday.
The 4-year-old son of More Than Ready now has three graded stakes victory to his credit and also surpassed the $1 million mark in earnings. He is More Than Ready’s 11th horse to hit the seven-figure mark. The WinStar stallion’s lifetime numbers include more than 80 graded stakes winners and $155 million in earnings worldwide.
A natural late closer, Tom’s Ready was last of nine for the first half-mile before he started his run for the lead. Well out into the track coming into the stretch, he had only Stallwalkin’ Dude to run down in the final furlong, going by his foe in the final strides to finish the seven furlongs in 1:22.06 on fast main track.
The winner earned a lifetime-best Beyer Speed Figure of 105.
“We want to get him to the Cigar Mile (G1, Dec. 2 at Aqueduct), try to get him a Grade I win,” Bentley Combs, assistant to winning trainer Dallas Stewart, said.
Owned by G M B Racing, Tom’s Ready won the Woody Stephens S. (G2) and the Ack Ack S. (G3) last year, and is now 5-4-3 in 20 starts and has banked $1,013,767.
Pedigree Notes from the TDN:
Tom’s Ready is out of Goodbye Stranger, a half-sister to MSW Lemonlime, who was purchased by Black Stone Farm carrying the colt who would become Tom’s Ready for $40,000 at the 2013 Keeneland January sale. Goodbye Stranger is also the dam of the unraced 2-year-old filly Goodbye Kid and a yearling filly by Gemologist.
