Eagle Way, a Group 1 winner last year in his native Australia, remained undefeated at the 2,400 meter distance with a victory in the April 30 Queen Mother Memorial Cup (G3) at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong.
Eagle Way, who began his career in Australia and won the Queensland Derby (G1), put away another Group 1 winner in Helene Charisma to win by three-quarters of a length. The final time of 2 minutes 25.48 seconds was the third-fastest time recorded ever at the distance at the track.
“He is a serious horse, a serious stayer,” jockey Joao Moreira said. “He has shown for weeks now that 2400m is his goal, and he showed that already when he won the Queensland Derby. Today, we saw the best of him so far in Hong Kong, but I think he will be a Group 1-quality horse.”
Eagle Way has won six of 19 starts and has three Group wins to his credit for owner Siu Pak Kwan.
More Than Ready now has four graded stakes winners this year, and living up to his moniker as a leading international sire, the wins have come in four different countries and on three continents.
