American Patriot scores big on Belmont Park turf

WinStar Farm’s homebred 3-year-old colt American Patriot tallied an eye-catching three length victory on the Belmont Park inner turf course on Saturday, possibly setting up the lightly-raced colt for a return to stakes company this summer.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, American Patriot was content to set behind a loose-on-the-lead Kasseopia (GB), who was still in front by 1 1/2-lengths after a pedestrian six furlongs in 1:12.49. American Patriot kicked into high gear at the top of the stretch and came home very swiftly, getting the final furlong in just a shade more than 11 seconds for a final time of 1:46.88 for the nine furlongs.

A maiden winner over the Keeneland turf this spring, American Patriot has now earned $92,800. The dark bay colt is the second foal out of Life Well Lived, who is a full sister to Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Well Armed.
