OBS March 2yos Day 2 Wrap: Gemologist’s diamonds

The final day of the OBS March Sale of Selected 2-year-olds in Training saw a trio of Gemologist’s first crop go through the ring, with all three bringing a winning bid of at least $170,000.

Topping the group was hip No. 486, a filly offered by Halcyon Hammock Farm and sold to L.E.B. The filly worked a sparkling 1/8th in 10 seconds flat at the Under Tack Show. She is out of Crazy Woman Creek, who has already produced four winners and is a sister to stakes winner Pink Poppy and Grade 1-placed Liquidity.

Hip No. 479, a colt consigned by King’s Equine, agent, went to Christina Jelm for $200,000. Another to breeze in 10 seconds, the bay is a half-brother to stakes winner Fly Away Angel, out of the graded stakes-placed Copelan’s Angel. 

Wavertree Stables, Inc. consigned hip No. 463, which sold to Emerald Bloodstock on behalf of trainer Jeff Bonde, for $170,000. The filly is a sister to three stakes horses, including Miss Preakness S. winner I’m Mom’s Favorite. He second dam is $1.7 million earner Tout Charmant.

Gemologist had a total of seven 2-year-old sell during the March 15-16 sale, for an average of $190,000, more than 12 times his stud fee of $15,000.
