Quartet of WinStar stallions with entries on 2YO spotlight day at Breeders’ Cup

Four WinStar stallions will be represented on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup card at Santa Anita, from a trio of runners by stalwart Speightstown to the first Breeders’ Cup runner by top-10 First-Crop sire Audible. That quartet is joined by Outwork’s multiple graded winner Brightwork and Good Samaritan’s well-regarded Can Group.

Speightstown, himself a Breeders’ Cup winner and the sire of a pair of Breeders’ Cup winners, has General Partner and Prince of Monaco on the $2 million Juvenile (G1) and Scalable in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies (G2). Prince of Monaco, undefeated winner of the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and Best Pal S. (G3), is owned by SF Racing et al and was bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC. He sold for $950,000 as a yearling. General Partner, most recently second in the Champagne S. (G1), is owned by Klaravich Stables and was bred by Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

In the Juvenile fillies, Speightsown’s Scalable comes from the high-powered connections of trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Repole Stable. The gray/roan filly was second most recently in the Chandelier S. (G1). She was also bred by Stonestreet. Scalable will be joined in the race by Brightwork, who has four wins in five starts, including the Spinaway S. (G1) and Adirondack S. (G3). Owned by WSS Racing LLC, Brightwork was bred by Wynnstay Inc. and H. Allen Poindexter.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) will feature Life’s an Audible, who was a fast-closing second in last month’s Miss Grillo S. (G2) at Aqueduct. The chestnut filly is also from the Repole/Pletcher team and was bred by Susan Moulton.

Top-10 Second-Crop sire Good Samaritan’s Can Group, in post 4 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1), is undefeated in his two turf starts. He came from last in a field of 12 to win the Bourbon S. (G2) in early October at Keeneland.
