More Than Ready’s Mexican Miss annexes Jersey Lilly S.

Mexican Miss continued her winter hot streak with a win in Saturday night’s Jersey Lilly S. at Sam Houston Park, the first stakes start and win for the 5-year-old daughter of More Than Ready.

Since Thanksgiving, Mexican Miss has won three of five starts, and is a neck and head away from being undefeated during the span.

In a full field of 12 distaffers traveling 1 1/16-miles on the turf, Mexican Miss settled well off a loose-on-the-lead Cassatt, who was up some eight lengths on the backstretch. The field began to bunch up coming into the stretch, and Mexican Miss found clear running on the outside and wore down Cassatt to win by a neck in 1:43.75.

The winner is trained by Joe Sharp on behalf of Brad Grady. She has finished top-three in 11 of 16 starts. She is the first foal out of Laguna Plateada, the 3-year-old champion filly in Chile, from the same family as Santa Anita H. (G1) winner Malek.

Mexican Miss is More Than Ready’s 155th lifetime stakes winner, second only to Giant’s Causeway among North American sires. His progeny have already won five stakes in 2016, including three graded stakes winners.
