WinStar’s Gettysburg rolls in Gulfstream Park MdSpWt

Gettysburg marched to a front-running, 4 ½-length victory in a 1 1/8-mile maiden special weight contest for 3-year-olds on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, drawing off in the stretch to put the son of Pioneerof the Nile owned by WinStar Farm in the conversation for upcoming stakes races on the 2016 Triple Crown Trail.

Gettysburg, who is trained by Todd Pletcher, got plenty of company up front out of the gate, but secured to top spot and the rail after a quarter mile in :23.73. Javier Castellano sat motionless on the dark gray colt on the backstretch and around the turn, then with a little nudge at the top of the stretch, drew off handily in the lane to win going away in 1:51.12.

Bred in Kentucky by Whisper Hill Farm, Gettysburg is the second foal out of the Pulpit mare L. A. Devine and is from the same family as their young stallion Drosselmeyer.
