Revolutionary, WinStar’s multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire, sired his first reported foal early Friday, Jan. 8th when a filly was born at Rancho Ballena in Ramona, California.
Bred by Rancho Ballena Inc., the dark bay or brown filly is out of the young Bernstein mare Tenampa .
“She is healthy, correct, and we are super happy,” said Ellen Verez, manager of Rancho Ballena, Inc.
On the racetrack, Revolutionary broke his maiden by 8 ½ lengths in New York as a 2-year-old, earning a 102 Beyer and 3 ¾ Ragozin for the performance – marking the fastest Beyer and Ragozin earned by a 2-year-old colt or gelding from his crop. In his first start at three, he showed determination to overcome a troubled trip and win the $200,000 Withers S. (G3) at Aqueduct.
Revolutionary captured his biggest career win in the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds in his final prep for the Kentucky Derby (G1), defeating the likes of Palace Malice. He remained No. 1 on the Steve Haskin’s Derby Dozen for five weeks leading up to the Derby, where he had to overcome trouble before finishing a strong third behind Orb.
At four, Revolutionary was runner-up to Will Take Charge in the Oaklawn H. (G2), before scoring an electrifying win in the $300,000 Pimlico Special S. (G3) on Preakness weekend, cruising past Grade 1 winner Moreno to prove best as the favorite. Revolutionary earned a 106 Beyer for the performance, and the racing millionaire boosted his career earnings to $1,353,125.
Campaigned by WinStar and trainer Todd Pletcher, the striking dark bay colt is by champion War Pass, and he hails from the Grade 1-winning A.P. Indy mare Runup the Colors. Bred by W. S. Farish, the female family represents one of the top Farish families, with a dozen blacktype winners within the first two dams including Horse of the Year Mineshaft. Similar to Super Saver, the family traces back to one of the best Phipps families, including the direct family of breed-shaping mare La Troienne.
Revolutionary covered 146 mares in his first season at stud in 2015. He’s set to stand his second season at WinStar for a fee of $7,500 stands and nurses.
