St. Elias Stable extended to $650,000 to secure the bid on a colt from the highly anticipated first-crop of
Improbable in Book 2 of the Keeneland September Sale on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Bred and consigned by
Rosilyn Polan, the colt is out of the winning Union Rags mare Kitty Union. The colt descends from the
family of Horse of the Year Tiznow, Haskell Invitational S. (G1) winner Paynter, and graded stakes winner
Budroyale.
Eclipse Champion Older Male on the strength of three consecutive Grade 1 wins in the Awesome Again
S. (G1), the Whitney S. (G1), and the Hollywood Gold Cup (G1), Improbable was a five-length winner of
the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) at two. All told, the son of City Zip banked more than $2.7 million for
WinStar Farm, CHC Inc., and SF Racing LLC, finishing first or second in 11 of 15 lifetime starts.
In addition to the colt acquired by St. Elias Stable, Improbable, who hails from the immediate family of
Hard Spun, has had additional first yearlings sell this year for $425,000, $385,000, $300,000 etc. He was
the No. 1 Freshman Sire by 2021 CPI—3.80 (with more than 100 mares bred).
