Book 1 Constitution colt at Keeneland September Sale brings $850,000

A bay colt by Constitution out of the stakes-placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Gifting sold for $850,000 to John Stewart during the opening session of the Keeneland September Sale on Monday, Sept. 11.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent, the Book 1 colt was bred in Kentucky by Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings Inc. and Stretch Run Ventures LLC. He hails from the family of Champion Rags to Riches, Grade 2 winner Casino Drive, as well as Arcangelo, winner of this year’s Belmont Stakes (G1), Travers Stakes (G1), and Peter Pan Stakes (G3). This is also the family of Grade 2 winner Cezanne and Grade 3 winner Arabian Hope.

Constitution was represented on the racetrack the day before the sale by Aspenite, who captured the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile Stakes at Kentucky Downs on Sunday, Sept. 10. Constitution is also represented by Webslinger, winner of the American Turf Stakes (G2) and Treason, victorious in the Eclipse Stakes (G2). In the auction ring, Constitution’s 2-year-olds in 2023 sold for $675,000, $625,000, while yearlings have sold for up to $900,000 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga.
