Handy MdSpWt win for Sidney’s Candy filly

Cotton Candy Cutie overpowered her foes in the stretch to score a 1 ½-length victory in a one-mile maiden special weight contest in the first race at Aqueduct on Saturday afternoon.

The chestnut 2-year-old is the eighth winner for Sidney’s Candy, who ranks seventh on the Kentucky First-Crop sire list with over $420,000 in progeny earnings. He will stand the 2016 season for $10,000 live foal.

Cotton Candy Cutie, owned by Half Century Racing, asserted herself in the stretch after tracking in second most of the way and came home a comfortable winner.

Cotton Candy Cutie is the first foal out of Sassy Redhead, whose dam Sass Me is a sister to Grade 1 winners Dubai Escapade and Madcap Escapade. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Twin Creeks Racing and sold for $90,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Preferred Yearlings sale.
