Nonna’s Boy easily best in Monmouth’s Lamplighter S.

Jumping to the lead right out of the gate, Nonna’s Boy skipped to a 3 ½-length victory in Saturday’s $60,000 Lamplighter S. over the Monmouth Park turf course.

With none of his foes getting within two lengths at any point, the 3-year-old son of Distorted Humor went on to collect his first career stakes win in 1:41.11 over the firm turf.

“He broke really sharp,” said winning jockey Chris DeCarlo.  “I just tried to stay quiet on him like Todd (trainer Pletcher) told me to because Todd said he could get on the bit and pull, which he did, but he relaxed for me and just did his own thing. When I asked him to quicken at the top of the stretch he accelerated and that was it.”

Bred by the owner Mike Repole, Nonna’s Boy upped his record to 3-1-1 from seven starts, good for earnings of $148,240.

Nonna’s Boy is Distorted Humor’s tenth stakes winner of the year. The 2-time champion sire has 135 lifetime stakes winners.
