G1 winner Take Charge Indy’s first foal is a filly

WinStar Farm’s Take Charge Indy, the regally-bred Grade 1-winning millionaire by A.P. Indy, sired his first reported foal on Monday, Jan. 5th when a dark bay or brown filly was born at Royal Thoroughbreds in Freedom,  NY.

Bred by Danzel Brendemuehl and Sandra Lombardo, the filly is out of the young Elusive Quality mare Spring Elusion.

“She is an attractive filly, very correct with a deep girth, and weighing in at 120 pounds,” Brendemuehl said. “We are delighted with her.”

Take Charge Indy represents the last Grade 1 winner to retire to stud by legendary sire of sires A.P. Indy. A graded stakes performer at two, Take Charge Indy captured his biggest win in the $1 million Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream over Union Rags as a 3-year-old. He went on to dominate the Alysheba S. (G2) on Kentucky Derby weekend at Churchill as a 4-year-old, recording the fastest Beyer speed figure at 1 1/16 miles on dirt in 2013 with a 109.

Out of 2013 Broodmare of the Year and Grade 1-winning racemare Take Charge Lady, Take Charge Indy covered 145 mares in his first season at stud in 2014. He’s set to stand his second season at WinStar for a fee of $20,000 stands and nurses.
