Fed Biz, three-time G2 winner & two-time track record-setter, retires to WinStar

Fed Biz, a three-time Grade 2 winner and two-time Del Mar track record-setter by Giant’s Causeway, has been retired and will stand the 2015 breeding season at WinStar Farm in Versailles, KY. His fee has been set at $12,500 stands and nurses.

“Fed Biz is an awesome physical by a proven sire of sires, Giant’s Causeway,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO.  “He profiles identically to Distorted Humor. Both are good-looking, well-bred multiple Grade 2 winners with similar earnings, and both are track record-setters at seven furlongs at major racetracks. Both were also very sound and ran until five. Add to it that Fed Biz is closely related to top sires Pulpit, Tale of the Cat, and Johannesburg on the dam’s side. He has every chance to be a top WinStar stallion for the next 15 years.”

Campaigned by trainer Bob Baffert for owner Kaleem Shah, Fed Biz broke his maiden as a 2-year-old at Santa Anita in his first start on dirt before reeling off three straight wins. He defeated Grade 1 winner Jimmy Creed in the El Cajon S. at Del Mar as a 3-year-old, and won the San Fernando S. (G2) in the Strub Series at Santa Anita in his first start at four. Fed Biz returned to Del Mar later in his 4-year-old season to defeat two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Goldencents in track-record-breaking performance in the Pat O’Brien S. (G2), blazing seven furlongs in 1:21.12.

In 2014, Fed Biz captured his third Grade 2 win with a decisive 5 ½-length victory in the San Diego H. (G2), setting another Del Mar track record – this time at 1 1/16 miles. He stopped the clock in 1:41 flat, eclipsing Zenyatta’s record of 1:41.48 set six years prior. Fed Biz followed that up with back-to-back runner-up performances to Goldencents and champion Shared Belief in the Pat O’Brien (G2) and Santa Anita’s Awesome Again S. (G1), respectively. In the latter, Fed Biz tested the previously undefeated Shared Belief all the way to the wire in the Awesome Again, falling a neck short in the 1 1/8-mile race on dirt.

“I’ve trained a lot of good-looking horses, but Fed Biz is a horse I saw in the back ring at Keeneland and had to have,” said Baffert.

Fed Biz retires with a record of 6-3-3 from 19 starts and earnings of $770,496. He was a $950,000 yearling purchase by Baffert at the 2010 Keeneland September sale, and represents the highest-priced yearling at public auction sired by Giant’s Causeway’s since 2008. Fed Biz hails from the Wild Again mare Spunoutacontrol, a stakes-winning half-sister to Tale of the Cat and Myth, the dam of Johannesburg. Fed Biz’s second dam, Yarn, is a full sister to the dam of Pulpit.

Fed Biz will be available for inspection starting Monday, Nov. 10. For more information about Fed Biz, please contact Darren, Kyle, or Sean at 859-873-1717, or visit WinStarFarm.com.
