WinStar Farm, which has sold 14 Grade One winners, had a total of 22 horses sell at the Keeneland November sale during session #8 on Nov. 11, including the top three prices of the session.
Topping the list was the exciting racing prospect Barbados who broke his maiden at Keeneland: a son of leading sire Speightstown, Barbados brought a session-best winning bid of $340,000 from Paul Hanifl.
“He’s a nice colt,” Hanifl’s agent, Churchill Downs-based trainer Mike Tomlinson, said of Barbados. “We’ll see how nice it is in the future. The colt is going to Churchill Downs from here. We’ll give him a day or two to settle, then we’re shipping to Gulfstream Park about the end of the month, as soon as Churchill’s over. He’ll be in my barn.
“He was clean, X-ray-wise, everything looked good, he’s athletic, he ran a good number his last start at Keeneland,” Tomlinson said. “It’s just hard to find nice 2-year-olds that you can buy that have pedigree and have talent.”
Race Day, a 3-year-old son of Tapit who won consecutive races at Keeneland and Churchill Downs in the past month, sold for $285,000 to Ghost Bloodstock and was the second-highest price of the day. Only in America, a 4-year-old son of Tiznow who is a full brother to Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Well Armed, brought a winning bid of $215,000 from Cromwell Bloodstock, agent, the third-highest figure on Tuesday.
Graded stakes winner and runner up in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) Laugh Track (pictured), who sold as a stallion prospect, went for $125,000 to the duo of Mike Abraham and Jacob Nance.
WinStar’s gross receipts for the 22 horses sold were $2,077,000, for an average of $94,409.
