Toasting raises glass in inaugural Sky Beauty

Congrats’ list of 2014 stakes winners grew on Sunday when the 4-year-old filly Toasting pulled clear late to register a 1 ½-length victory in the first running of the $100,000 Sky Beauty S. at Belmont Park.

Getting away alertly in the field of five, Toasting was nevertheless in last, but just a couple of lengths from the front as the well-bunched field traveled down the backstretch. Two-wide around the sweeping Belmont turn, Toasting rallied by co-favorites Katie’s Garden and Montana Native in mid-stretch, rolling home in an excellent 1:34.49 for the mile over the “fast” track (VIDEO).

With the $60,000 payday, Toasting raised her lifetime earnings to $534,135. She is 5-3-5 in 21 starts, with a win in the $100,000 Dream Rush S. last autumn at Belmont Park.

Toasting is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, who obtained the filly for $175,000 at the OBS Select 2-year-old sale in 2012.

Congrats has had an excellent first weekend of September. In addition to Toasting’s victory, 2-year-old Conbradulations won a maiden special weight contest on Saturday, and on the same day the 2-year-old filly Pangburn was a game second in the Pocahontas S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.
