Distorted Humor 2yos impress in debuts

Nonna’s Boy floated across a muddy Belmont Park surface en route to an eye-catching 5 1/2-length maiden special weight victory in the first outing of his career on June 13.

A day later, Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings-bred Assorted Humour took his maiden special weight debut at Evangeline Downs, winning impressively by 3 1/4 lengths in :59.58.

These two colts became the third and fourth juvenile winners of 2014 for Distorted Humor, who has now sired four debut 2-year-old winners from five starters.

Nonna’s Boy, a Repole Stable homebred trained by Todd Pletcher, broke alertly in the five furlong dash, making the lead from the outset, widening his margin throughout to coast home an easy winner in :58.18 to earn a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 73 (VIDEO).

Nonna’s Boy is the first foal out of Nonna Mia, who broke her maiden by a dozen lengths at two and went on to place in the Grade 1 Frizette S. and Grade 3 Tempted that same year. Nonna Mia is a half-sister to Holy Bull S. (G2) and Nashua S. (G2) winner Cairo Prince.

Assorted Humour, a Kentucky-bred chestnut out of the stakes-winning mare Zenith, by Roy, and is a half-brother to Grade 1-winning 2-year-old Great Hunter ($976,260), who won or placed in six Graded stakes, including the 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
