We Miss Artie draws ‘perfect’ for Derby 140

Artie Schiller’s Kentucky Derby (G1) 140 hopeful We Miss Artie drew post position seven for Saturday’s Run for the Roses, a spot termed “perfect” by his trainer Todd Pletcher, who won the 2010 Derby with WinStar Farm’s Super Saver.

“Perfect, just what I was dreaming of,” Pletcher commented on the gate assignment.

We Miss Artie earned his spot into the Derby with a gutsy win in the Spiral S. (G3) at Turfway Park in late March, but showed his class in his 2-year-old season with an authoritative score in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland last October. Ovearll, he has a record of 3-2-0 in eight starts, earning $609,000 for co-owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

The Ramseys acquired We Miss Artie at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling sale, going to $90,000 to secure the Ontario-bred. We Miss Artie is one of two graded stakes winners, and four stakes horses this year for his sire, whose progeny have topped the $1.2 million earnings mark in 2014.
