Harlan’s Holiday 2yo makes ‘Grand’ move

Grand Arrival splashed to a 6 1/4-length maiden special weight score Saturday at Saratoga with an emphatic move in midstretch to draw away powerfully from his seven 2-year-old foes (VIDEO).

Grand Arrival is one of eight juvenile winners in 2013 by Harlan’s Holiday, who is in the top 10 on the 2-year-old Sire List.

Breaking alertly from post 2, Grand Arrival battled for the lead from the outset, wresting the lead at the top of the lane before making all the pace late. He covered the seven furlongs over a very sloppy course in 1:24.48.

Bred in Kentucky by Don Ameche III et al, Grand Arrival is out of the winning mare Grandstone, who is a half-sister to Tampa Bay Derby winner Wheelaway. Owner Richard Pell purchased Grand Arrival for $200,000 out of the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
