Stakes double for Harlan’s Holiday

Holiday Babe and Harlan’s Pure both tallied black-type victories during the final week of July, raising the 2013 stakes winner total for their top-10 sire Harlan’s Holiday to nine and pushing him past the $4.7 million in progeny earnings on the year.

Holiday Babe, a 2-year-old filly, got her first career stakes victory on July 27 with a gate-to-wire win in the $50,000 Princess Margaret S. at Northlands Park. The Kentucky-bred filly was a 2 1/4-length winner going six furlongs as the prohibitive 2-5 favorite. The bay filly has a solid 2-1-0 mark from four starts.

A day later, Harlan’s Pure took the 1 1/4-mile Clásico José Celso Barbosa S. at Camarero Racetrack in Puerto Rico. The 3-year-old bay colt survived a stretch-long duel to prevail by a nose in the $50,000 contest.

Harlan’s Pure has been a model of consistency, winning five times, with one second, in six lifetime outings.

Harlan’s Holiday’s nine stakes winners have accounted for 13 stakes wins this year, which also ranks in the top 10 among North American sires. His 107 winners to date is third-best among active stallions.
