Fourth first crop winner for Pioneerof the Nile

Base Case Scenario prevailed in a hard-fought stretch duel Saturday at Saratoga to give his sire Pioneerof the Nile his fourth winner from his first crop and vaulting him to second on the Freshman Sire List with $149,367 in progeny earnings.

Going 1 1/16 miles on the turf, Base Case Scenario took the overland route, going four wide around both turns while moving from fifth to vie for the lead near the top of the lane. The dark bay colt put away pacesetter Branded Hand at the eighth pole, then held sway over Stroll to Victory in the final furlong to triumph by a head in 1:44.04.

Base Case Scenario is owned by Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence. The Kentucky bred was offered during the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling sale, where he brought a winning bid of $200,000 from Nick de Meric, agent.

Base Case Scenario is out of the stakes-placed mare Mamboalot and is a half-brother to Alydarla, who placed in the Grade 3 Cicada S.
