Varda’s dashing career unveiling in a Sunday maiden special weight race at Del Mar returned immediate dividends for her connections as the 2-year-old Distorted Humor filly ran up a 3 1/4-length victory at six furlongs.
The bay speedster sold for $700,000 to the Baoma Corp. just a few months ago at the OBS Spring 2-year-olds sale in early June. Her Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert had her ready for her debut as she rolled through fractions of :22.40 and :46.36 before coming home in hand in 1:11.67 on a fast main track.
Bred by the Masters 2018 LLC and Distorted Humor Syndicate, Varda is the latest of four winners out of She’ll Be Right and is a half-sister to stakes-placed winners Getyouttamyway and Big Family.
