Bodemeister, the leading Second-Crop Sire of 2017, had four yearlings sell during Monday evening’s session of the Aug. 7-8 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale for an average of $243,750, more than eight times his 2015 bred-on stud fee.
Topping the list was hip No. 40, consigned by Warrendale Sales for Tall Oaks. Centennial Farms was the winning bidder at $350,000 for the bay colt. The colt’s half-brother Elusive Collection is a stakes winner, while their dam Recollect is a full sister to three-time Grade 1 winner Winter Memories.
Another highlight of the evening was hip No. 110, a colt consigned by Gainesway, agent that went to Starlight Racing for $295,000. The dark bay is a half-brother to English Group 3 winner Maftool and from the family of Alfred G. Vanderbilt H. (G2) winner Abraaj and Schuylerville S. (G2) winner How About Now.
Bodemeister’s $243,750 yearling sales average this year ranks second-best among sires of his generation. On the track his Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming leads a list of seven stakes horses and the winners of six stakes in 2017.
