After a very strong 2016 in the auction ring, Gemologist kicked off the 2017 2-year-old sales season with a $285,000 filly during Tuesday’s session of the March 14-15 OBS March Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
The filly, hip No. 29, was consigned by Brick City Thoroughbreds and purchased by trainer Todd Pletcher, who also conditioned Gemologist to wins in the Wood Memorial (G1) and Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2).
Gemologist’s first crop are 3-year-olds of 2017. He is currently ranked fifth on the Second-Crop Sire list, the same spot he held at the end of last year in the freshman sire rankings.
