A colt by champion sire Tiznow and bred by WinStar Farm brought a winning bid of $2.45 million during the Thursday session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training, which runs April 25-28.
The final bid is exactly one million dollars more than has been paid for any other 2-year-old at auction in North America this year.
Bobby Dodd, agent, was the seller of hip No. 793. John Moynihan signed the ticket on behalf of M. V. Magnier.
The bay colt had blazed through his work at the Under Tack Show last week, getting a furlong in a co-best time of 9 3/5 seconds.
The Kentucky-bred is out of the Distorted Humor mare Moonbow. Her dam Storm Beauty comes from one of the most prolific racing families in recent times, including her half-sister Gold Beauty, a Champion Sprinter and the dam of Dayjur and Maplejinsky. The latter is the dam Hall of Fame distaffer and Champion Older Female Sky Beauty.
In addition to this year’s sales success, Tiznow’s runners have found the winner’s circle in top races such as the Blue Grass S. (G2) with Irap, who is scheduled to start in next week’s Kentucky Derby (G1).
